Sierra Gorda Announces the Appointment of a New General Manager

Sierra Gorda SCM, the owner of the Sierra Gorda Mine in northern Chile, has announced a change in leadership. The company has today appointed Robert Wunder as its new General Manager.

Sierra Gorda SCM, the owner of the Sierra Gorda Mine in northern Chile, has announced a change in leadership. The company has today appointed Robert Wunder as its new General Manager.

Mr. Wunder, a U.S. citizen, has nearly 40 years of experience in the metal mining industry and has been a leader at large mining operations and mining companies in the Americas, Asia, Europe and Australia. His experiences in Latin America have included the oversight of mines in Mexico, in Venezuela and in Chile, where he spent a period as the vice president of operations for Minera Escondida Ltda.
Mr. Wunder holds an engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from the University of Utah.
The outgoing General Manager, Mr. Maciej Sciążko, was appointed in 2013 and oversaw the Sierra Gorda mine’s development and, in particular, the achievement of commercial production in 2015. The company wishes him well in his future endeavours.
Sierra Gorda SCM is a joint venture company, 55% owned by KGHM Polska Miedż S.A. and 45% owned by Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation.
