General information
Rhenium is a precious and rare metal. Its melting point is 3186°C, which is the third highest melting point of all the elements. This, together with the highest boiling point (5596°C), high density (21.03 g/cc) and high hardness and resistance to corrosion and deformation, makes rhenium unique. Rhenium is a strategic commodity in applications requiring resistance to extreme high temperatures.
Due to its unique properties rhenium is used, inter alia, for the production of jet engine turbine components, gas turbines, and spacecraft shields. Rhenium enables engine's operation at higher temperatures, which improves its performance and fuel consumption economy alike.
Rhenium is also used in the petrochemical industry as a catalyst in the production of high-octane gasoline. It is also used for the production of heating elements, electrical contacts, electrodes, electromagnets, vacuum and X-ray tubes, flashbulbs, metallic coatings, and of rocket engine components. Rhenium's unique properties make it suitable and attractive for all applications requiring resistance to high temperatures, and damage and deformation.
For KGHM rhenium is a by-product of the copper production process.
Metallic rhenium
KGHM produces its metallic rhenium in the form of gray tablets. It is used in the production of super-alloys for aircraft engine and gas turbine components. It is also used in the production of filaments and heat shields. High quality of KGHM's metallic rhenium is guaranteed by certificates of worldwide recognized laboratories, and its stability and the metal's availability by KGHM's ownership of its permanent source - own copper deposits containing this precious element.

Rhenium powder
Rhenium powder is used, inter alia, in the medical industry. It is an additive in the super alloys used in production of components that require resistance to high temperatures, such as aircraft engine parts, gas turbines, filaments and heat shields. Intensive work is also underway on the use of rhenium as a component of materials for 3D printers.
Rhenium powder of minimal rhenium content of 99,7% (including gas impurities) is produced to individual client’s order.
