On Thursday, 30 January 2014, Łukasz Kubot held a press conference organised by KGHM in Lubin. During the press conference the tennis player talked about his victory at the Australian Open, his playing for the national team, about his family, about young hopefuls in the game of tennis, Cancan and about his future plans. He also thanked his fans for their support and congratulations.
- I wish to thank KGHM, a company which is with me for good times and bad. I am proud to be able to represent the company. It was very moving to be able to raise the victory cup with the KGHM logo on my shirt. It is for just such moments that a man works so hard – said Łukasz Kubot. – I have 2-3 years ahead of me playing in singles and doubles. I don't yet want to talk about a post-career life, because I don't want to jinx anything. I'm an ambassador for tennis and I want to share my knowledge with the younger generation. I hope to have a long-lasting relationship with KGHM.
KGHM is a sponsor of sport, and has been actively engaged in the social life of the Polish copper belt for over half a century. – Our company cheers on those athletes who began their careers here, and supports those who can demonstrate their ability to win. We are well aware that a world-class position can be developed from anywhere, and Lubin is an example of this. Nonetheless, when we talk about sport at the highest level, we also have to talk about the need for professional sponsoring – said Herbert Wirth, President of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. – The honesty shown by Łukasz, who during the quarter final match at the Australian Open acknowledged a mistake which the judge hadn't noticed, once again demonstrated to us that Łukasz stands for the same values that we have as a company. We offer our congratulations for the result achieved, as well as for his extraordinary display of fair play, and our sincere thanks for representing our company.
KGHM is the largest employer in the region, and the company's operations have a decisive impact on most local citizens, which is why the company has a strong feeling of responsibility for the further development of local communities. The company supports sporting clubs and numerous sporting events, both small local ones as well as international events, such as the Bieg Piastów races in Szklarska Poręba.
KGHM cheers and sponsors the Polish tennis players Łukasza Kubota and Michał Przysiężny, and Radosław Kawęcki, the world champion in 200m Backstroke. All of them come from Zaglębie Miedziowe (Copper basin).
We keep our fingers crossed for them!
