Wire Rod

KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. "Cedynia" Copper Smelter Branch produces copper wire rod of 8 mm ± 0.4 mm and 10 mm ± 0.4 mm diameters under the continuous melting, casting and rolling method.

The surface of the wire rod is cleaned by the alcohol method and coated with a synthetic wax layer which protects the surface against oxidation during transport and storage.

The wire rod has a uniform microstructure, with uniform oxygen distribution. Oxygen content is low enough to ensure good drawability and a low recrystallisation temperature.

The "Cedynia" Copper Smelter Branch of KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. holds a quality certificate conforming to PN-EN ISO 9001:2015; PN-EN ISO 14001:2015; PN-EN ISO 45001 issued by the Polish Research and Certification Centre, which covers the production of copper wire rod.

Cu-OFE Wire

"Cedynia" Copper Smelter Branch of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A in Orsk produces the oxygen-free copper wire under UPCAST technology. The installation was commissioned in 2006 thus increasing the production capacity of the plant by 15 K tonnes per year. UPCAST technology enables the production of wire of various diameters (8-12, 7-16-20-22-24-25 mm) and of wire from low-alloy copper with the addition of silver. This installation includes a cathode charging system, an induction melting furnace, an induction casting furnace, a casting machine with moulds and primary and secondary coolers for vertical casting along with 16 coiling machines.

Application Fire resistant cables (i.a. in IT systems, nuclear plants),
High-copper content cables used in audiovisual systems.
Varia This lowest content of oxygene in the cupriferrous material produced by  KGHM (max. 3 ppm)

APPLICATION:

  • production of microwires,
  • enamel coated and/or Ag-, Sn-, Ni-plated copper wire
  • fire-resistant safety cables,
  • low-alloy copper products,
  • CAT (category) 6 and 7 video and audio transmission cables,
  • for drawing:

Cu-OFE wire with an oxygen content of <3ppm is resistant to hydrogen embrittlement. Trace amounts of oxygen ensure excellent drawability and a low recrystallisation temperature.

  • for extruding:

Cu-OFE wire is an ideal material for continuous flat or round extruding using the Conform® process.

  • for rolling:

Cu-OFE wire may also be rolled into flat or round sections. .

Benefits of using Cu-OFE wire:

  • Production from selected cathodes,
  • The surface has a light metallic colour, free of flakes,
  • No intrusions from the rolling process,
  • Uniform product quality,
  • Thin diameter tolerance,
  • Resistant to hydrogen embrittlement.

Quality requirements for cathodes:

  • Cu CATH-1 (cathodes LME A-grade),
  • Selected with lowest content of impurities,
  • Clean surface of the cathodes - rinsing,
  • Surface free of dendrites and sulphates.

Cu-AG Wire

The "Cedynia" Copper Smelter Branch of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. produces oxygen-free, silver-bearing copper wire in a structurally cast state. At the customer’s request it is possible to produce CuAg(OF) with silver content other than that defined by the standard, under UPCAST technology.

The surface of the oxygen-free, silver-bearing copper wire is smooth and clean without cracks and micro holes, and is coated with a synthetic wax layer to protect the surface against oxidation during transport and storage (application of the synthetic wax layer is optional at the customer’s request).

The oxygen-free, silver-bearing copper wire has an enhanced resistance to heat and abrasion. Thanks to trace amounts of oxygen (max. 5 ppm) the wire has excellent drawability.

The "Cedynia" Copper Smelter Branch of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. holds an Integrated Management System Certificate meeting the requirements of the following standards: PN-EN ISO 9001:2009, PN-EN ISO 14001:2005, PN-N 18001:2004 for the products it manufactures.

APPLICATION:

Equal to the oxygen-free wire. Additional production of trolleys and commutators.
