KGHM Foundation relaunched

Tuesday, 03 March, 2015

For more than 12 years the Foundation has been taking initiatives to support health protection, science, culture, ecology and  sport. “The work of the Foundation is an important part of the activities carried out by KGHM in the framework of corporate social responsibility,“ said Herbert Wirth, President and CEO of KGHM. “We are inextricably linked with the Copper Basin, which is why we want to develop the region and help its residents.”

Projects which meet the needs

The Foundation’s projects are carried out in four areas: sports and recreation, health and safety, science and education, culture and traditions. “On the basis of the Foundation’s experience we decided to strengthen support for areas perceived as the most important form the region’s and its residents’ perspective,” said Marek Bestrzyński, President of the Foundation. “Therefore we launch new projects: the promotion of the principles of first aid, sports and mathematics among children and youth, as well as the protection of cultural heritage.

The first project – “Your five minutes – first aid training” – is dedicated to the first grade of junior high school students. Classes will be conducted by specialized medical and rescue personnel. “Football for all” is an initiative to promote physical activity among children aged 5–6 years. Younger and older students are the target audience for the project “Lower Silesian School of Mathematics”, which promotes teaching through the circles of interest. Through the project “We save monuments – we cultivate traditions”, the Foundation will support the national heritage.

The new start – better organization

Detailed information on the project and a description of the rules for awarding grants to individuals and institutions can be found on the website, which just started. The Foundation has also the new logo, consistent with the updated corporate image of KGHM. “We improve the processing of applications thanks to engagement of the committee of experts in the works of the Foundation,” added Marek Bestrzyński. “We have already had experience in asking experts for consultation. This direction proved appropriate, hence we decided to permanently benefit from their help. This will enable us more efficiently use financial resources.

To facilitate contact with the Foundation, later this year there will be possibility to apply for grants online. More information about the activities of the institution at: www.fundacjakghm.pl.
