Pablo Domeyko came to Poland together with his wife after 17 years of absence. They visited, among others, Cracow, Wrocław and Lublin. In KGHM, they met with Jacek Rawecki, 1st Vice President of the Board of KGHM, for supply chain management. – We showed our guests how the company looks like. The KGHM mines in Poland are different from those in Chile – here we’ve got deep mines, there they’ve got open mines. It is a novelty for our guests. I think they are satisfied with their visit and with the fact that the KGHM mine in Chile is named after our great fellow citizen – says the Vice President.
Contribution of Ignacy Domeyko to economic development in Chile is clear. Our fellow citizen discovered precious deposits, developed academic education and mining industry in Chile.- Domeyko developed astronomy, meteorology, archaeology, geology, even ethnology. That country had been unaware of all those things previously. Only some scientists from abroad had that knowledge, as e.g. the French, and Claudio Gay among them – said Pablo Domeyko during his visit.
While in Lubin, Pablo Domeyko visited the Lower Secondary School No. 4. The school has been in friendly contacts with the John Paul II school in Coquimbo, which according to the Chilean media has become a master educational institution thanks to support from the Poles.
- We established the friendship with the Chilean school through its patron - John Paul II. We realized the international project about Ignacy Domeyko together. We are very proud that we had the opportunity to host his grandchild. – said Anna Słowikowska, the principal of the Lower Secondary School No. 4 in Lubin.
Pablo Domeyko was accompanied by a team of journalists from TV Vive Chile, which documents the visit for the needs of reports about Polish – Chilean relationships. The visit was organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
